Established in 2006 and based in Montpellier, the association FINS work for the improvement of knowledge and the protection of rays and sharks of the French Mediterranean. These species are become very rare within this area biogeographic (53% of species classified as threatened by IUCN, and nearly 20% are not classified due to lack of data), the improvement of the knowledge is based historically on an approach to science participatory, involving the different users of the sea likely to meet (divers, boaters, fishermen).
Through the project, FINS for KIDS, the association develops different tools and animation teaching and is involved in volunteer work in the classrooms of our regions from kindergarten through high school in order to raise the awareness of new generations on the important role of sharks to our oceans. FINS also works actively for tourism diving for Sharks in the world, eco-responsible and sustainable to the extent that scuba diving is one of the main levers of protection of these species to this day.
