The occurrence of cancer in children always appears as an earthquake. For the child, of course, but also for his family. Pediatric cancer isolates. It leads to profound changes in daily life: the school's pace and the parents' professional activity are upset. Every member of the family must adapt to this daily life that has suddenly become abnormal, which weakens psychologically and socially. It is for these reasons that Muriel Hattab founded the association Princess Margot in 2012, in memory of her daughter, Margot.
The goal is to help children, teenagers and their families get through the pediatric cancer test. Concretely, Princess Margot acts on three levers: First, by a personalized psychosocial support: the 90 volunteers of the association go daily to meet the children and their families in the four partner hospitals of Princess Margot: Robert Debré Hospital , St. Louis Hospital, Institut Gustave Roussy, Institut Curie.
They organize fun and artistic activities to liven up the lives of children and their families. Princess Margot also provides a third place of respite: the Princess Margot House, a real cocoon outside the walls of the hospital. The welcome is based on volunteers and professionals, who bring listening, comfort and well-being. During special days for mothers, special attention is paid to those who are particularly vulnerable to their child's illness.
Finally, Princess Margot finances innovation to fight against childhood cancer. These cancers affect 2,900 children and adolescents every year according to the National Cancer Institute, but they do not mobilize enough funds dedicated to the fight against cancer (less than 2.5%). For example, Princess Margot has been asked to renovate the rooms of three pediatric oncology departments and has supported innovative projects in the research, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer.
Thanks to the support of its partners (Grand Prix of America, Clarins who awarded Muriel Hattab the title of Woman of the Year in 2016) and the involvement of its volunteers and professionals, Princess Margot has supported more than 1,000 families in the crossing of pediatric cancer and thus reduced the psychosocial sequelae caused by this disease.
